MANZINI – Young Buffaloes kept Mbabane Swallows waiting to be crowned champions at the expense of Matsapha United in the MTN Premier League


Goals scored by Sifiso Mazibuko and Siboniso Mamba in either half saw the dream of ‘The Birds’ being crowned the champions with two games remaining brought to halt.
Buffaloes are still on the race hoping for Swallows to lose a match as they trail them with four points with only two games remaining before the season ends.


Swallows are at the summit of the tablet with 56 points while Buffaloes are second with 52 points. A win for Swallows on Sunday against Vovovo will see them defending the title.
Matsapha United scored their consolation goal through substituted Sidumo Shongwe with only 15 minutes remaining before full time.


The game started with Matsapha United enjoying ball possession but unable to penetrate Buffaloes defence marshalled by Siboniso Mamba and Sihlangu Mkhwanazi. Buffaloes second choice goalkeeper after Nhlanhla Gwebu Phumlani Ngobese had to make some saves.


Buffaloes could have taken the lead in the 20th minute when Phiwa Dlamini received the ball unmarked in six yards only to shoot wide. Buffaloes goal then came in when Sifiso Mazibuko well taken grounds shot easily beat Matsapha United goalkeeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala.  The match then went for the breather with Buffaloes enjoying the 1-0 lead. Ten minutes into the second half, substitute Siboniso Ngwenya’s free-kick deflected on the Matsapha defence beating the goalkeeper, 2-0.
Matsapha who never gave up continues to apply pressure towards the end of the match and they were paid off when Sidumo’s shot found the back of the net with Phumlani Ngobese well beaten.
