PLAYER DIES AFTER HEAD INJURY
NHLANGANO – A teacher seems to chock a bit, and he is barely audible when asked about the circumstances that led to his younger brother’s death.
His 20-year-old brother reportedly died in hospital following a head injury sustained while playing soccer with peers at his home area at Makhonza, in the outskirts of Nhlangano.
It is understood that tragedy struck while the player, who was identified as Mnotfo Mkhaliphi, was trying to win an aerial ball from an opponent during the football match last Wednesday.
Mnotfo was a Form IV pupil at Ngwane Central High School when he tragically met his death.
Apparently, he got injured in the head when he collided with a rival player. The impact of the collision appeared to have been in the boy’s head.
The young lads were playing in a soccer match, organised between local teams to keep the boys busy over the school holidays.
“It all happened during the course of the game. He was going for the ball with another boy from the area, when the two collided against each other. He immediately went down and transport had to be arranged for him to get assistance,” narrated an eye witness.
Information gathered was that the deceased collapsed instantly, leaving the other boys in a state of shock.
The terrified youngsters immediately took the injured Mnotfo off the football pitch and tried applying first aid, while another one rushed to a nearby homestead to ask for transport assistance.
