SUPPORTERS CALL SHOTS
MBABANE – It has always been about the tail wagging the dog at Manzini Wanderers whenever the supporters want their leadership out.
The infighting started again about three years ago when supporters wanted change in leadership. Now it is the current directors who are wanted out, in particular Peter Mathaba. They are adamant that they have got a well-resourced person financially in the name of Mehluli Nhlengetfwa, a South African businessman.
Never mind that Nhlengetfwa issued a statement after seeing all the media articles about his name and being a Wanderers sole director, withdrawing himself from everything they had discussed as he met some of the team’s stakeholders and structures but noted a lot of division.
Leading the campaign for new directorship is the club’s National Supporters Committee, led by Majayivane Dlamini, acting on the mandate of their electorate. He is the one who, yesterday morning, was on national radio SBIS’ Sport Show, where he announced an urgent supporters’ meeting scheduled for The George Hotel at 2pm.
It did not end there. He also publicly discredited his team’s current directors made up of Peter Mathaba, Sandile ‘Chief’ Dlamini and Reverend Percy Mngometulu, saying that Wanderers’ Royal Cup preseason games in Durban next month were the work of Nhlengetfwa yet he was unwanted.
“The NSC has been to Mathaba to speak about Nhlengetfwa also coming in as a director, but he doesn’t want when his three-year term is over. The other co-opted directors have no problem as they’ve made it clear the club remains open to assistance,” said one of the NSC members holding a high position.
Called by the Swazi News Sports Desk yesterday, Majayivane, who had always been very vocal in the team’s issues over the years, confirmed the meeting and reaffirmed his radio statement despite being told that his club’s CEO, Pat Mahlalela, was refuting those claims.
