MBABANE - Like every other weekend, the Mbabane parkrun attracts new runners.

The 62nd edition saw first timers from the capital city, Lorraine Mthethwa, who came with her son Lindokuhle Mkhaliphi, Mthethwa said they were happy to be part of the weekly 5km-timed run and that her first experience was good. “I enjoyed myself running with my son. This is just a perfect platform where families can meet and jog every Saturday. The race encourages people to network and socialise while making new friends and keeping fit at the same time. I will attend even next weekend,” Mthethwa said. Her son said he was looking forward to the next edition.

postponing

“I am based in Mbabane and I have been seeing this race in the newspaper which made want to partake but I kept postponing. Finally, I have managed to come and I was happy because it was my first time running with my mother. I enjoyed the whole experience,” Mkhaliphi said. Others were South Africa-born Senzo Khatside and Malawi-born Roy Chirwa. They also spoke highly of the race, noting that it was not only for competitive runners but embraced all types including fun-runners. Chirwa said the weekly race was a good way of keeping a healthy lifestyle.

perfect

“This is good for both elite and occasional runners. I have been wondering where I can get a perfect place to run once a week and finally I have discovered the parkrun,” Chirwa said. Khatside also shared similar sentiments about the parkrun, saying it was a perfect platform for families and individuals to keep fit and healthy. The race was won by Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force runner Nkululeko Gama and in the female category it was his sister, Simphiwe.
