MBABANE – Manzini Sundowns are set to rake in about E500 000 from the sale of midfielder Justice Figuareido to ABSA Premiership League side, Maritzburg United.

The former national team, Sihlangu player is yet to sign on the dotted line with the KwaZulu-Natal based side after he impressed during a 10-day trial. Figuareido is currently with the team in their preseason training.

A source close to the matter said both teams will meet and finalise the deal that will be the biggest in Manzini Sundowns history before end of next week.
“Both teams are talking about figures around half a million for the player, and the deal is likely to be completed this coming weekend. The player impressed during the 10-day trial and United are eager to sign him in a long-term contract,” said the source.

Figuareido is one of the players who grew up in the development structures of Sundowns, as he played for their Under-17 and Under-20 before he made it to the senior teams in the 2015/16 season. Since then he had been among the most wanted players, having been linked with CAF Champions League participants, Mbabane Swallows and South Africa’s National First Division League side, Mbombela United.

Sundowns Chairman Mark Carmichael said negotiations were still going on between the two parties and nothing has been concluded yet.
He said figures and the contract were being discussed between the two parties and he hope they conclude a deal before the season kick-off in South Africa in two weeks’ time.

“There is nothing concluded yet and it will be improper to comment on something that is between the two parties. It is no secret that Maritzburg have shown interest in the player.

‘‘Our focus is not much on the figures but in the welfare and development of the player,” he said.
He said it was now all speculation and it is the usual case during the preseason.

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids has added several players to his side this season including Keagan Buchanan, Nazeer Allie, Sizwe Muthwa and Tholang Masegela.

Maritzburg United had a record breaking season for the club last season as they secured their highest finish in the league.
Maritzburg United will be up against Golden Arrows in the KwaZulu-Natal derby at Harry Gwala Stadium in their ABSA Premiership League opener on August 5.
