SIDVWASHINI – If you know what you want, no one can derail you from your set target.

Poppy Khoza, the former Swaziland Tourism Authority (STA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and widow to the late Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Khoza, declined a nomination to be Mbabane East Indvuna Yenkhundla. Khoza, however, consented to one of being the constituency’s Member of Parliament (MP) yesterday at Sidvwashini.Khoza, who commanded a strong following, will contest for the position against the constituency’s former MP Esther Dlamini and former Sihlangu Head Coach Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, who were nominated on Saturday.

After Khoza accepted her nomination to be MP, almost double the number of people required to support her stood up to form a line behind her. Others had to be turned back as only 10 were required for her nomination to be registered. She was the only female nominee for the MP position at Sidvwashini yesterday. Another contender for the position is Mbabane Local Kombi Association President Edward Masilela, who also looked confident about his prospects in the contest. When Khoza was nominated for the position of Indvuna Yenkhundla, it was the crowd that made noise signalling disapproval of the nomination. The electorate shouted that she was being nominated in the wrong category. The presiding officer had to intervene and remind residents that it was every person’s right to nominate a person of their choice for any category.

When asked if she would stand for elections in the position of Indvuna Yenkhundla, Khoza said, “I decline nomination in this category, I will accept one in the MP category.” Also nominated for the position of MP in the constituency at Sidvwashini were Mandla Ngwenya, Joseph Sibandze, former Councillor John Dlamini, Mbabane Ratepayers Association’s Patric Bhembe and Mpile Vilakati. Others were Mancoba Ngwenya and Gcina Mkhonta, who both declined nomination. The nomination started at around 11am and ended after 3pm.
