MBABANE – This is always the moment every karate artist envies – earning a new rank which comes with a new colour belt.

This is where they are tested before being given new ranks, it does not just happen but takes hard work, determination and it is always a very physical test lasting for over four hours, depending on age and rank to be earned.

If failed, it can take an artist two to three years to get another chance, unless his or her Senseis feel they can give you another chance sooner than later.
Juniors in the Oyama Kyokushinkaikan Karate Association of Swaziland (OKKAS) will be pleased to know their time to fight for higher ranks is nigh.

“We will be conducting a National Junior’s Grading on September 29 but we’re yet to announce the venue,” confirmed OKKAS’ Sensei Bongani Ndzabandzaba.
He said they expected around 500 junior athletes to participate and earn their new ranks. Ndzabandzaba said all the junior artists had time to get ready mentally and physically, as this was a gruelling exercise requiring strength.

He said all other necessary details regarding the grading would be released in due course. Meanwhile, OKKAS expects to go to the polls on September 1 for a new executive, as the current one led by Shihan Mfanafuthi Vilakati’s time has lapsed.Lorestis doloria
