SOLDIER MZAMO WINS AGAIN
SIMUNYE – Soldier Mzamo Mavuso has once again won the Swazi Warrior Fitness Challenge. The Nkoyoyo-based soldier emerged as the overall winner after clocking 11:36:22 minutes to beat 75 athletes. The fitness challenge was held at Simunye Country Club yesterday. Despite claiming gold, Mavuso could not manage to beat his previous personal best time of 10:25:56 minutes he set on April 26, 2018.
Mavuso said the reason he could not beat his personal best time was because the obstacles were tough.
“The obstacles were reduced by three as compared to the 18 we executed in April but they were tough. They needed one to put more strength, especially the tyre carry and overs.
“The distance from one obstacle to another was longer, as compared to the previous edition. This was why I could not beat my personal best time,”Mavuso said.
He also added that he had no special diet but avoided oily foods just few days before the event.
“I drink a lot of water to cleanse my body. On my training, I do weight lighting in the morning and run in the afternoon. I also do push-ups and squatting,” he added.
Meanwhile, coming second was former champion Charles Mamba on 12:41:56 minutes.
In the ladies category, Carol Preat won with 17:45:55 minutes while Nedbank’s Nelisiwe Shongwe came second on 21:44:97 minutes.
The winners got a share from a E22 600 prize money.
One of the sponsors, Nedbank Swaziland made sure everyone left with a gift. There were T-shirts, water bottles, cooler bags, key tags, caps and much more. Sportshouse sponsored all the competitors with a participation shirt on entry. Also joining hands in the festivities were RSSC and Link Pharmacy.
South Africa and Mozambique paraded competitors again.
