BIG THREE CAN WEAR THEIR ESWATINI MOBILE KITS - FIFA

MBABANE – If the FIFA statutes are anything to go by, then the Eswatini Mobile-sponsored elite teams have every right to don their sponsor-branded kits.


This is according to the FIFA Laws of the Game under Article 7 (57) titled Sponsor advertising by teams, players and team delegation members. The article allows clubs, so long as regulated specifications are met (must not exceed laid down identifications under Chapter VI. It states that sponsor advertising will be prohibited should it be beyond stipulated limits.


“On all playing equipment used on, or brought into (permanently or temporarily), the pitch area, for all matches, any form of advertising for sponsors, products, manufacturers (shirt brands e.g Adidas), suppoters or any third parties, of political, religious, commercial, personal statements, images and/or other announcements, is strictly prohibited but only if it exceeds FIFA’s guidelines. The article also goes on to say the hosting team has the right to the round the pitch branding, which should have a maximum 42 boards and the tournament sponsors, MTN Eswatini in this case, is only given a certain number of boards to market their products , 10 at most while the rest goes to the club’s sponsor and probably PLE and their sponsors.


In Article 7 (60), it is provided the Member Association of the that particular country must ensure the application of the Laws of the Game and even submit such equipment to FIFA for inspection as all logos, sponsor brands on team shirts must have certain measurements, which has not happened in Eswatini.


Former Mamelodi Sundowns’ Manager Kenneth Makhanya, now with Swallows’ management and also a sports consultant, confirmed the FIFA laws were on point about the ongoing clash between MTN Eswatini and the Eswatini Mobile sponsored teams.
“We’re yet to come out and fully demand our marketing rights as clubs.

The space on the chest of the kits belongs to the clubs’ sponsors only they must meet certain measurements before the teams wear them in official matches,” he explained to sports editors at Sigwaca House, where he also displayed the Laws of the Game through a projector in an effort to assist the PLE on the matter.
