MBABANE – Excelling sports personalities will once again be rewarded for their hard work during the National Sports Awards.

The Swaziland National Sport and Recreation Council (SNSRC) will host the second edition of the awards on March 30, 2019, at a venue yet to be confirmed. The first edition was hosted in May 26, 2017 at the Convention Centre, Ezulwini.

Nomination forms were made available yesterday immediately after the breakfast meeting with associations and sponsors at Mountain Inn. SNSRC Chief Executive Officer Darius Dlomo announced that they had increased the number of categories to 14 instead of the 12 in the first edition.

“The Eswatini National Sports Awards are the ultimate reward programme of sport in the country. The awards seek to recognise and motivate excellence in sport participation by all sportspeople.

We will once again host this important national event in conjunction with our partners, the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA). This will be the second edition of the National Sports Awards after the inaugural awards in 2017, which, needless to say, were a tremendous success,” he said.
Some of the newly introduced categories include outstanding sports leaders, sports administrator and national sports association.

Dlomo said they had challenges in the first edition of the event and they learnt lessons which they were working on.
He said they saw the importance of separating outstanding leaders and administrators as these were different duties.
