MBABANE – “Register before we lose the Eswatini Mobile sponsorship.” This was a message conveyed by Mbabane Highlanders PRO Paul ‘Magidza’ Masilela to the team’s supporters. This was after the team’s closed-door meeting which was held at Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) Head offices yesterday.

The media was barred from attending the meeting. Asked about the meeting’s agenda, the PRO said it was a fruitful meeting where the directors delivered a message from the sponsor.
“The Chairman of Board of Directors, Zweli Jele, addressed the supporters on the issue of registration. The numbers are not impressive; we have 360 supporters who confirmed their registration but the target set by the sponsor was atleast 1000 by the end of this month. It was also said that if we do not meet the target, the sponsor would pull out,” Masilela said.

He further admitted that before the team agreed to the Eswatini Mobile partnership, they had promised that they would meet the targets.
“In any relationship, both parties must benefit. In this case so far, we are benefiting from Eswatini Mobile and we have not given back the necessary mileage and support they deserve. The directors and patron urged supporters to register so as to meet the set targets,” he said.

Masilela also highlighted that for the process to be effective, the patron has summoned the directors and National Supporters Committee to a meeting.
“The NSC and directors, it was noted, were not on the same page thus the patron has summoned them to a meeting to sort out any differences that the two parties might have. We believe a lasting solution will come out of that meeting,” he revealed.
Asked on the proposed meeting by the patron, Masilela said; ‘The meeting is proposed to be this midweek. However, a date has not been set yet. While the superiors are sorting this matter, we urge our supporters to continue to register. They can contact me on 79193730 on how to register. The long and short of it in the registration is to text 1952 to 79000 222 and follow instructions onscreen,” he disclosed.

When Eswatini Mobile’s Fisiwe Vilane was asked for comment, she declined to comment. Highlanders are among the sponsored teams by the mobile company. The team receives E80 000 per month. Other teams that are part of the deal are Mbabane Swallows, Manzini Wanderers, Madlenya and Tinyosi.
