SIGANGENI – He would tell you everything about football. That was Mbabane Swallows and Sihlangu captain Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze’s father, according to the skipper’s elder brother, Bheki Tsabedze.

Bheki was speaking on behalf of the deceased’s children during his vigil morning service at Sigangeni before his father was laid to rest.
Muzikayise Nathaniel Tsabedze was once one of the country’s best footballers and played for the national team.

“He loved football, he was a football encyclopaedia. He knew almost everything about football,” said ‘TT’’s brother.
Bheki said his father, commonly known as ‘Zuluway’ in the football circles, was a hero who gave birth to heroes.
“He groomed us well. We have lost so much after his death,” he said.

The elder sibling said the Tsabedze family was unique as it had had three members who played for Swallows, a big team in the country, and that was rare.

supportive

He told mourners that as siblings, they promised to continue being supportive to their mother just like it happened while their father was still alive.
Red, blue and white were the dominant colours at the vigil and funeral yesterday as Swallows ‘supporters, officials and players came in numbers to support their captain.

The team’s head coach, Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati, was also present during the vigil and funeral.
Former Mhlambanyatsi Rovers player and teammate of ‘TT’’s father, Jocko Shongwe, said ‘Zuluway’ was stolen from Big Bend to play for Rovers because he deserved to play for a good team.

Hero

“He was a hero and kind. He hated losing games regardless of which team we played against. He did everything with determination and wanted success,” said the former jersey number 10 Rovers player.

Dudu Simelane, who spoke for the deceased’s grandchildren, said ‘Zuluway’ treated them like his own children and promised that they would continue with the strong religious and moral principles he taught them.

According to Isaiah Shabangu, who spoke on behalf of the widow’s family, the former footballer loved his wife.
He urged the widow to continue loving their home and the Tsabedzes to care for her and give her the same love she received from her late husband.
Before ‘Zuluway’ was laid to rest, ‘TT’ was applauded for embracing his father’s leadership qualities as he is the captain of both his team and Sihlangu.
