MBABANE - YKK of Southern Africa (Pty), Ltd, through its Eswatini wing, has donated a multi-sport court to Bethany-based New Hope Centre.

The company recently celebrated 40 years of operations in Eswatini, with a manufacturing plant in Matsapha that employs in excess of 170 Eswatini citizens.  In celebration of this, and as a gesture of appreciation, YKK felt it prudent to give something back to the good people of Eswatini yesterday. The beneficiaries got the multi-sport court.

Gary Davidson, Factory Manager at YKK Eswatini, interviewed after yesterday’s handover of the facility, said the entire project cost E215 000.
“YKK has a heart for local community development with specific focus on the younger generation and more specifically, those children that are needy, who come from broken homes and who do not have the privilege of being raised by parents.

Engage

“Based on these grounds, it was decided to engage with ‘The New Hope Centre’ who are based in the Bethany area.  New Hope’s mission is to provide a permanent home for orphaned and abandoned children in Swaziland, and to raise these children with love, education and a Biblical foundation,” Davidson said.
He further disclosed that after meeting with New Hope’s Director Dr Elizabeth Hynd and listening carefully to some of their needs, it was agreed to assist with the construction of a multi-sport court where the young people would be able to exercise together, breathe fresh air and enjoy some of the fun activities that all young people should be able to enjoy.

“YKK is now proud to be associated with The New Hope Centre and we look forward to witnessing some of these fun-filled activities that will undoubtedly impact positively on many lives,” stressed Davidson.
Dr Hynd said they were thankful to God and to YKK who have made a 15-year-old dream of having a multi-sport court come true.

Six-a-side

She disclosed that 15 years ago, they cleared the ground to build the school and to set out  the court so children could play six-a-side soccer, volleyball, netball, tennis,  all on the same ground, using different colours of paint to mark the different courts.
“Today (yesterday) we cut the ribbon as we received the full usage of the completed court.
