NHLANGANO – Hapless Manzini Wanderers dreadful season reached ground-zero new lows when a ruthless Manzini Sea Birds flummoxed them 4-1 in emphatic fashion here yesterday.

The ‘Weslians’ sixth defeat of a nightmarish season was not only the heaviest but it left even coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe earnestly admitting his team had dished out a ‘horrible’ performance all around as the modest Sea Birds were full value for the three points and leapfrogged the maroon and white outfit to the 11th position on the log standings.

sparkling

Sea Birds second win of the season since they beat Tambuti FC 2-1 on 29 September at Somhlolo National Stadium was founded on a proper game plan, gusty team work and sparkling individual performances as they toyed around their more illustrious opponents with consummate ease.
Interestingly on that sunny Saturday, it was again the duo of Muzi Tsabedze (50th minute) and Bhekumuzi Mamba eight minutes later (58th minute) who found the back of net.

The Sibusiso Magagula-coached side showed their intentions as early as the 3rd minute when two goal hero Bhekumuzi Mamba combined beautifully with gifted winger Darren Christie before firing a low shot which beat Wanderers Nigerian born goalkeeper, Romanus Igidimba hands down.

Sea Birds, third from the bottom having suffered six defeats before yesterday’s clash, continued to press Wanderers’ three-man defence with probing moves, especially on the left flank where Muzi Tsabedze was a handful with his pace and skill.
Sea Birds’ dominance paid off four minutes before half time when Wandile Nhleko finished off sublimely after breaking free and outpacing defender Sihle Mkhonta before sliding the ball past the advancing goal-minder, Igidimba.
On the hour mark, Bhekimuzi Mamba completed his brace when he finished unmarked after a mazy run by the eccentric Muzi Tsabedze left Wanderers, defence including goalkeeper, Igidimba bedazzled before he crossed for Mamba to finish off.

defence

Seven minutes from time, Wanderers did pull one back through a fortuitous finish by Mike Dombo but with their defence as leaky as a sieve it was only a matter of time before Sea Birds increased the tally.
Another solo run by the man of the match Muzi Tsabedze saw him outpacing Sihle Mkhonta before toe-poking the ball home to complete the rout.
If Wanderers coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe described his team performance as ‘horrible”, their season is turning to a modern day football tragedy from boardroom to the playing field.
