RECREATION ARE SBS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS CHAMPS

KWALUSENI – Recreation have stopped Correctional’s dominance.

This is after they were crowned the Swaziland Building Society (SBS) Club Championships champions yesterday at Kwaluseni, University of Eswatini (UNESWA) tennis courts. The Manzini based club won the championships in a highly contested tournament and they emerged as the champions after they beat Correctional 3-2 overall. The decider between the two sides saw Recreation win 6-2, 6-4 where it was a mixed doubles match.

Correctional were the defending champions as they won the tournament consecutively in the previous two years. Thulani Gina and Senzelwe Dlamini inspired Recreation’s victory after defeating Correctional’s Alan Mathonsi and Tibusiso Ntshangase in the final match. After the win, Recreational walked away with E3 000 plus a floating trophy while the runners up received a consolation prize of E2 000. Matsapha were in position three and received E1 500 for their effort.

Recreation’s overall win was also inspired by Takhona Khumalo who beat Correctional’s Tibusiso 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 during the ladies section. Gina also won 6-4, 6-0 against Correctional’s Mhlobo Nhlabatsi in the male’s section. There was also a veteran’s section where Correctional’s Masiza Ntshangase won 6-1, 6-3 against Recreation’s Martin Gamedze but was not enough to give them the overall win. Six teams participated during the tournament which started on Saturday and these were Matsapha, Mhlume, Recreational, Correctional, Lobamba and Acers.
