PARKRUN HIGHLIGHTS IN THE PAST 85 WEEKS
MBABANE – The Mbabane Parkrun has grown in leaps and bounds. The weekly Mbabane Parkrun has 1 097 registered runners/joggers as compared to when it started in May 6, 2017 when it had only 130 runners. After 85 weeks of running every Saturday, the local 5km timed race has attracted over 1 000 runners.
Interestingly, some of the runners were tourists from across the globe. There were runners from the United States of America, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and South Africa who came to partake in the weekly race.
However, on average, the Mbabane-based race attracts 84 runners on a weekly basis. The only highest number of participants ever recorded was on July 1, 2017.

The ninth edition recorded 139 runners. The winner on the day was Mduduzi Dlamini, who finished the race in a time of 20:45 minutes while coming first in the ladies category was Linda Loffler on 26:42 minutes.
The fastest runner in the Parkrun so far is Eswatini Umbutfo Defence Force athlete, Nkululeko Gama. He has won the race 31 times and he is also the record holder with an impressive record of 14:56 minutes. He has participated in the 5km race 32 times and only lost the first position to Swazi Slojos’ Siyabonga Sihlongonyane. However, he came late by five minutes thus Sihlongonyane emerged as the winner.
In the ladies category Gugu Mthembu is the current record holder with a time of 20:02 minutes she set on April 28, 2018. Mthembu also holds the record for the female runner with the highest number of wins.
The Parkrun also had the highest number of volunteers in the 81st edition where 12 volunteered to help during the race.
