MBABANE - He swam with the big sharks and excelled. Pigg’s Peak junior player, Nkosinathi ‘Bhubesi’ Sihlongonyane attained the first position when he outclassed about 70 competitors in the All-night Manzini Black Ball Singles Tournament that started on Saturday through Sunday at Manzini pool Club. The 18 years old player knocked Majaha Dlamini 7-5 in the finals, eventually being crowned champion.

He took home the first prize of E2 500, a trophy and a gold medal. Sihlongonyane, who was evidently jubilant after the final game, said it had always been his dream to win a tournament of this magnitude. Prizes went up to the 16th place.

“This is a huge achievement for me and I am very happy to have conquered the giants of the sport and I must say that I learnt quite a lot from this competition. I hope that in the next tournament, they will allow me to compete with veteran players and not players of my age group”, said the junior pool champion.
He added that his cue ball skills had significantly improved over the years and having played the finals in the previous Express Car Wash Singles Tournament, which was won by Dodge Matsebula, made him stronger and eager to fight for the next trophy.

Worth noting is that defending champion Menzi Ngomane and last season’s runner-up, Flag Nxumalo failed to reach the finals. Sihlongonyane thrashed and derailed Ngomane 6-3 in the Semi-finals, while Nxumalo, who is popular in pool circles, was eliminated by the latter in the quarter finals where they played 5-4.
