‘KOKI’ SURVIVES NASTY ACCIDENT
MBABANE – Life is becoming a roller-coaster for new Manzini Wanderers head coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati – on and off-the-field.
Yesterday, the multiple-award winning coach escaped death at lion’s claw in an accident with three other motorists. Vilakati and three motorists were lucky to be alive when they came out unscathed in an accident along the Makholokholo Road. The accident occurred yesterday in the afternoon. His car was the last from three cars which collided onto each other. These were; a red Honda Fit, white Toyota Corolla and a maroon Opel Astra.
The coach was driving a white Toyota Hilux single cab when the accident occurred. It was said he was driving alone in the vehicle when the accident occurred. He appeared to be shocked when this reporter arrived at the accident scene. Vilakati was not willing to speak to this reporter and even requested to not to comment on the matter.
His car, which had an Eswatini Telecom sticker on the driver’s side, swayed from its direction and turned backwards. It was damaged on the front bumper.

A source who witnessed the accident narrated that Vilakati was trying to avoid a collision when the accident took place.
“Koki was from the direction of Nkoyoyo, heading to Mbabane. He was driving on the slow lane when a car came speeding behind him. He veered off his lane while trying to avoid a collision and lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road.
His intention was to evade an accident but, his efforts to avoid it proved futile as it went over the drainage onto the other side where it hit a stone,” narrated the witness.
He added that everything happened so abruptly that they were all overwhelmed with shock. The eyewitness said although the cars were damaged, it was fortunate that no lives were lost.
In the same accident, the Corolla crashed into an Opel Astra, which then bumped onto the Honda Fit. The Honda veered off the road and hit a steep donga. Simultaneously, the Astra got damaged on its rear.
Meanwhile, an officer who was found attending to the scene, identified himself as Constable Vilakati and mentioned that the accident was caused by the slippery road from the rainy weather.
“The three motorists overlooked the rainy weather and they were not cautious of the slippery road. They were speeding and as a result, a head-on collision occurred,” said Motsa.
The constable reiterated that accidents were prevalent during rainy seasons. He said they could be avoided by minimising speed on the road, especially on tarred roads.
