WARRIORS BULL-IED!
MBABANE – They are shining stars! Top Eswatini pugilists Zweli and Thabiso Dlamini hoisted the country’s flag in South Africa. The duo left the country on Friday to compete in the South African National Boxing Organisation (SANABO)-hosted International Open Boxing Tournament with three countries as there was also Mauritius.
They got into the ring yesterday and fought their way to the podium. Zweli did enough to bring gold while Thabiso, who won gold in 2010 in the Zone Six Games, got silver.
Details of their rivals’ names had not been available at the time of compiling this report even from the Eswatini Boxing Association (EBA). However, Zweli fought against Mauritius first, won on points and went on to beat a South African for the gold medal.
“Although I am still waiting for more details, I have been informed that Zweli won and got a gold medal. Thabiso also received a silver medal,” said an elated Mngomezulu.
Lost
Meanwhile, Thabiso is said to have played against a two-time Olympian and lost.
The tournament was at the Transnet Engineering Boxing Academy in Silverton, Tshwane. Thabiso and Zweli are under the Scholarship Olympic Solidarity programme which is why they were selected to represent Eswatini. Zweli competed under the 57kg category while Thabiso competed under the 69kg category.
