MBABANE – No pain, no gain.

Mbabane entertainment hot spot, Solani’s Shisanyama, was a hive of activity yesterday morning where over 50 fitness enthusiasts were sweating it out in the first edition of the Fitness Gladiators’ Aerobathon. As per the slogan goes, ‘No pain, No gain’, participants challenged themselves to numerous workout exercises all for health and fitness benefits. They all enjoyed four hours of fun and sweat on the lawn through a combination of aerobics, zumba-dance, yoga and weights workouts.

Other workouts on the day included the circuit, body conditioning, the box and body combat. First to take to the stage was Fitness Instructor, Sifiso Dlamini, who led the crowd through the Hilo workout session, which is part of a high and low impact choreographed session, one that also incorporates dance integrated with traditional aerobics moves. Dlamini appreciated all the participants who displayed dedication and the zeal to improve their health and fitness despite the scorching morning heat.

“The event was absolutely epic. People are concerned about their health and it is quite impressive to see so many high spirited ladies sweating off the extra calories and improving their fitness levels,” said Dlamini. Instructor, Nhlanhla Simelane conducted the body combat which is a mixture of martial arts and dance, followed by fitness coach Sandile Magagula who choreographed the body conditioning session and Coach Bongani Mthupha sealed the event with the circuit workout. One regular aerobics trainer, Sibonisile Bhembe from Sidwashini, said she was grateful to be part of the event which she described as exciting, motivational and educational.

She devoted herself to attend all upcoming Gladiators’ aerobathons which according to the Gladiators’ founder, Bongani Mthupha will be held once on a monthly basis.
“It was quite a fun and yet challenging experience for me. The instructors are all professionals and we were introduced to new workouts, different from the usual aerobics and we are grateful for the exposure,” she said.  Bhembe also advised people to keep in touch with their doctors, mentioning the importance of health monitoring and for advice because some exercises are not good for certain illnesses.
