SOCIALS TEAMS PLAY FOR CHARITY IN LUBOMBO
SIMUNYE – It’s fun that stands to benefit four schools from the Lubombo Region.
Ten social teams that comprised a majority of former premier league players played in a one day tournament at Simunye Sports Ground on Saturday. The Lubombo Charity Social teams tournament that stands to benefit four schools from the region was sponsored by Mr. Matata with trophies and medals. The funds are raised through the registration fee that is paid by the teams to play. Each team paid E500 registration fee. The schools will benefit among other things, sanitary pads, tissues, tooth-paste roll-ons, toothbrushes and clothes.
The idea came up from the trio of Bheki ‘Sbhera’ Ndzimandze, Celucolo Bulunga and Sifiso ‘Tso’ Vilakati. Ndzimandze said the tournament was played first in a round robin format before the semi-finals. He said the tournament was not only going to benefit the schools, but even the players as they get to mingle together and also for physical benefits.
“We are hoping that soon we will secure a sponsor that will assist us in hosting the tournament. As we are approaching the winter season, we want to host another tournament that will benefit some of the needy people, especially pupils from the region. We can be able to raise funds or the items that can be donated, including some blankets and shoes among other things,” he said.
