SIBONISO SCOOPS FEBRUARY MONTHLY MUG
MBABANE – One of the country’s top golfers Siboniso Mkhwanazi excelled in the Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation (ESRIC) Monthly Mug hosted by the Mbabane Golf Club on Saturday.
Mkhwanazi, who is police officer by profession, recorded 68 points to win both the best net and best gross trophies.
The format in every ESRIC Monthly Mug, is a medal and this past Saturday’s competition had 52 golfers, which is an admirable field by the Mbabane Golf Club’s standards. Mkhwanazi narrowly beat on a countback an equally good golfer in Vusi Dlamini, popularly known ‘Futis’. Scooping the third position with a 69 net was Nicholas Vilakati, who last month won both the net and gross prizes.
Meanwhile, Valentine Maziya, who is popular in the local golf circles for his longest drives, came fourth on 71 net, winning on a countback ahead of Kenneth Nkambule, Ronnie Mkhombe and Gordon Bennett. The last four prizes went to Clement Dlamini (73), Teddy Vilakati (73), Thabiso Gama (74) and Frank Hlophe (74). Another highlight of the day was the winning of two nearest the pin prizes by Sipho Sibonza on 8/17 and 9/18, respectively. The third nearest the pin prize went to Gordon Bennett on 2/11. As expected, the longest drive went to Valentine Maziya.
Speaking during the prize-presentation, ESRIC’s official, Tebogo Mohapelo, applauded the golfers for their visible commitment to the competition and pledged his company’s continued support.
“As a sign of our long-term commitment, we have already begun rebranding the club and course. Golfers will receive their ESRIC branded golf shirts hopefully in next month’s monthly mug,” he said.
Mbabane Golf Club committee member Ronnie Mkhombe has announced that they will host the club championship this coming Saturday and Sunday.
This is another big tournament that is likely to draw a full house and it is generously sponsored by the Swaziland Building Society. The closing date for registration is Thursday. “Club members who have not fully paid up their annual subscriptions will not be eligible to play,” Mkhombe said.
