STRIDERS CONQUER 400KM MILEAGE
MBABANE – They out did themselves, set a new record and are living proof that nothing beats determination and passion.
That is Manzini Striders Athletes, who had set themselves a challenge at the beginning of the year to complete 400km within the month of February, and they have done it. Yesterday they put to bed the final 16km to complete their 400km mileage. At the beginning of this fitness challenge, the club’s Public Relations Officer, Happiness Mthethwa, announced that this was an initiative meant to improve their fitness levels and stretch their endurance in preparation for local and cross boarder races.
Mthethwa commended all Striders runners, individuals and other athletic teams, such as the Ngculwini team, who also stood up to the challenge. She appreciated their high spirit and perseverance, stating that it was not an easy goal to achieve.
The 400km was covered through road training by embarking on 10km early morning runs during week days from Monday to Friday and elapsing 50km on each Saturday. “Big ups to all runners who took part in this challenge. It definitely was not easy and I am happy because it shows that runners are more focused and know what they want to achieve mainly because they pushed themselves hard from beginning until the end. We are very proud of ourselves mainly because it was the first time to cover such a mileage in a short space of time,” said Mthethwa.rder races.
