NSIZWA GETS KOSMOS PERMANENT NUMBER
MBABANE – Local athletes continue to shine and hoist the country’s flag high in international events.
This past weekend, Zithande Athletics Club coach Nsizwa Thwala was exceptional in South Africa’s Kosmos 3-in-1 race in the Mpumalanga Province. The local athlete was awarded a permanent number after meeting the requirement of finishing the race five consecutive times on Saturday.
For normal procedure, when there is a race or marathon, athletes are given numbers for identification purposes.
With this particular race, which is one of the biggest races in South Africa, once you finish the race for the fifth time, then the athlete is entitled to a permanent number.
This is a way of rewarding the athlete for their effort and hard work as this is not an easy challenge to complete.

The Kosmos 3-in-1 73.3km is one of the biggest races in that country and athletes are required to run or complete three races to endure the whole course.
The race is divided into three sub-races and all must be completed in one day.
First, it is the 42.2 km that starts at 6am, then the 21.1 km which gets underway at 1pm and finally the 10km at 5pm.
“This is a tough race and I used it for Comrades Marathon training,” said Thwala.
“It means number 957 will never be given to anyone else; it is now mine for life. I feel great for achieving this milestone and it makes it much more pleasant in the fact that I received the recognition at an international race,” said the overjoyed athlete. Meanwhile, the coach announced that they would be holding their boot camp this coming Saturday at St Marks High School in Mbabane
