‘TT’ OUT OF SPORTS AWARDS
MBABANE – There will be a new winner for the Sports Star of the Year award as Mbabane Swallows captain Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze has been left out.
According to the list released by the Swaziland National Sports and Recreation Council (SNSRC), the most prestigious award will be contested by national 100m record holder, Sibusiso Matsenjwa, Comrade Marathon current runner Melusi Lukhele, young swimmer Cameron Thomas Jele, 2018 African Championships gold medallist Nonhlanhla Erykah Seyama, FIFA accredited referee Letticia Viana and top boxer Zweli Dlamini.
Others who make the list are Lamulela Magagula, Mitchelle Amor Shen, Sikhulile Mahlalela, Thandukukhaya Dlamini, Sindisiwe Maphalala, Thobani Zikalala and Nomsa Mkhonta.

Speaking during a press conference, SNSRC Development Business Manager Zama Tsabedze said they were happy about the final list of the nominated candidates.
“We have shortlisted the list to three to all categories except for the sports star of the year, Life Time Achievement and Outstanding para sport category which will all be known during the night of the awards. The awards will be held at Esibayeni Lodge on March 30,” Tsabedze disclosed.
He also highlighted that the sports star award would be voted for by the public.

“Voting can be done by accessing our website at www.sportscouncil.org. It will open from today at noon and it will close at March 30 noon,” he added.
“You will recall that winners of these respective categories will represent the country during the regional awards some time in May. The regional awards will be held in Windhoek, Namibia,” he said.
Asked on the omission of some candidates especially ‘TT’, who has won nine trophies with Mbabane Swallows and has also been part of the national team for some time as a captain, Tsabedze said the shortlisting process was done by an independent panel.

“We did not question the shortlist since we believe the independent panel knows their job and we are happy with the list as it is,” he responded.
Meanwhile, ‘TT’ said he had no hard feelings that he was omitted from the award.
