MDUDUZI WINS 97TH PARKRUN
MBABANE – Mduduzi Alfred Dlamini raced to the top during the 97th Mbabane Club parkrun. The athlete, who is a twin, outclassed 108 parkrunners who participated in the 5km weekly timed fun run and walk.
The event is staged every Saturday morning at Mbabane Club starting at 8am and participation is free of charge. The runners did not only come to win but to improve their fitness levels.
Dlamini has made a name for himself and has won the parkrun eight times. Dlamini was the first runner to reach the finish line, scanning his bar code after 17:19 minutes.
smooth
The champion said he had a smooth run and encountered no challenges, mentioning that the parkrun was part of his training ahead of the upcoming Lubombo half marathon penciled for March 30 at Siteki, where he would compete under the 10km category.
“I am training hard for the Lubombo Half Marathon and I am determined to do my best and be counted among the podium finishers,” he said.
second
Finishing second was veteran Swazi Slojos’ athlete, Sifiso Vilakati, whose finishing time was not recorded, while Phumlani Dlamini pursued him closely to the finish line, falling through only four seconds later.
Vilakati and his colleague, Gugu Mthembu, who was the first lady finisher, started off with a 21km run from Lobamba to Mbabane early in the morning before joining the parkrun.
Vilakati said the Lobamba, Mbabane route, was their weekend routine as a team, aimed at maximising their fitness levels.
“Training takes dedication and knowing your goals and the Malagwane route is part of our weekend training.
“Swazi Slojos is going all out ahead of the Lubombo Half Marathon. This is a game, not war, and we are going to do our best to yield good results,” said Vilakati.
