FIVE THINGS YOU MISSED IN FINAL

 MBABANE – The pulsating 2019 Ingwenyama Cup final is water under the bridge, but it has expectedly left lasting memories.

While the major highlight of the festivities was the 4-1 thrashing of Mbabane Highlanders by Young Buffaloes, the flawless blending of football and culture was a sight to behold.
The venue was packed to the rafters but the Sports Desk’s roving camera managed to capture ‘hidden’ moments that might have been missed by most of the spectators. Below are some moments worth sharing after the event.
1. Zuma, Phumlani

Msibi moment:
There is never a dull moment when former South Africa president Jacob Zuma is around. He must have said something hilarious when he was interviewed by SuperSport presenter Phumlani Msibi during halftime of the final, if the latter’s reaction is anything to by.

2. Buffs celebrate
 without trophy

Young Buffaloes could not complete celebrating their maiden Ingwenyama Cup victory after their trophy was taken by the Management Committee for safekeeping. They did have a feel of the trophy, but by the time they returned to the podium to celebrate with the fireworks, they were empty-handed.

3. OSSU officer
stuck in fence

With the stadium packed to the rafters, police officers were deployed at every corner of the stadium to ensure sanity prevails. The ‘No Man’s Land’ is usually a challenge as supporters get to mix and fights erupt randomly. An officer from the police’s Operational Support Service Unit (OSSU) wing was trying to jump over the fence to restore order at this busy area. He got stuck in the fence, with his pistol and a good Samaritan came to his rescue.

4. Racing horses
cause scare

Horse racing, especially during the trophy parade, usually spices up the festivities. However, things almost went pear-shaped as one of the members of the band leading the trophy parade had to run for cover in fear of being run over by the speeding stallion. The parade was over and a warning to clear the space had been earlier issued.

5. ‘Msholozi’
presents winners

Visiting South Africa’s former President Jacob Zuma, who was tournament Patron His Majesty King Mswati III’s guest, was not only a spectator but got to present trophies to the winners.
