HIGHLANDERS FAN DIES IN HORROR CRASH
MBABANE – A dark cloud is hovering over the ‘Black Bull’. A Mbabane Highlanders supporter has died painfully after his Nissan bakkie crashed against a tree to be wrecked beyond repair.
The supporter, Nathi Gama, aged 38, died on the spot after the front part of the vehicle crushed him against the seat according to eyewitnesses. The accident happened on Sunday at Mangwaneni near the Forster forest.
Gama was reportedly driving back to his rented flat at Mangwaneni and was straight from Somhlolo National Stadium where he had watched his side lose 1-4 to Young Buffaloes during the Ingwenyama Cup final.
According to sources who witnessed the accident and tried to help the victim out of the car, the vehicle drove down the Magwaneni road at a high speed. “We found that the vehicle had hit a big tree at the forest and the road’s dead end boundary. When I peeped inside the vehicle, I was shocked to see that it was Nathi who had been involved in the accident. He died while we tried to assist him out of the vehicle,” the source said.
The source added that Gama was badly injured and it took someone who knew him properly to recognise him. According to the deceased’s neighbours, who were in a state of shock, the Highlanders die-hard supporter was a kind person who assisted a lot of people in the community.
Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Inspector Nosipho Mnguni confirmed the accident. Mnguni said she could not really say the deceased died on the spot but could confirm that the man was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital. The deceased leaves behind his wife and children with whom he stayed at the rented flat at Mangwaneni.
