‘SUSHI’ IS FEBRUARY’S BEST
MBABANE – Royal Leopard midfielder Sifiso ‘Sushi’ Nkambule’s resurgence in the MTN Premier League has earned him the player of the month gong for February.
He also took home a cheque of E6 000. Nkambule was behind the police side’s success in the month of February as they are still top of the table with 45 points, five points better than second-placed Young Buffaloes, only six games remain before the end of the season.
Nkambule attributed winning the award to the support from his teammates. He said the individual award was a bonus. “We are taking each game as a cup final and we will do this until the end of the season. The league is so competitive and we have to stay on top of our game if we are to win the title. Being at the top of the table is a motivation on its own and we do not want to see ourselves failing to win the league,” he said.
Nkambule said he believed that all his teammates deserved to be the player of the month but lucky was on his side.
Meanwhile, Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows striker, who netted five goal in two matches in February, Allen Mabuza, took home E2 000 for being the best player of the month.
hat-trick
Mabuza scored a hat-trick in their 5-1 win over Tambankulu Callies and netted a brace when they nailed Red Lions 2-1. Mabuza has scored 14 goals in the National First Division League so far.
Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) CEO Simanga Nhleko and MTN Meshack Maseko congratulated the players for the hard work.
Nhleko urged the players to work hard as they now stand a chance to be the players of the series at the end of the season. He said so far, they were happy with the progress of the games.
The MTN Premier Legaue is expected to bounce back on the weekend of April 5-7. It has given way to the FIFA week and then the EswatiniBank Cup quarter-finals.
