MHLAMBANYATSI – Seasoned off-road cyclist Sihawu Dlamini from 4Eva Cycling Club was unmatched on the trails during this year’s instalment of the annual Usutu Mountain Bike Challenge.

Dlamini clocked a golden time of 02:41:37 hours to win the 55km event, which was staged at Usutu Forest Primary School in Mhlambanyatsi yesterday. The cyclists meandered through the trails of Usutu Forest before returning to the school which is a stone’s throw away from Mhlambanyatsi Club.

Speaking to the media after crossing the finish line, Dlamini said he was happy to return and claim his rightful position.
“This is my second time partaking in this race. In the first edition I was the champion. I’m happy to win it again today.

“There was no secret to winning the race, I just came here to enjoy myself and winning gold was a bonus. The route was challenging because it was muddy but I did manage as I led from start to finish,”   he added.
He highlighted that he would have loved to defend his title last year but could not attend due to other commitments.
Coming second was veteran rider Thulani Gule, who clocked 02:47:30 hours with William Kelly completing the top three. The latter reached the winning point after 03:01:38 hours.
Gule said winning the race was not in his mind.

“The position for me was not an issue. In fact I surprised myself as I had been inactive since the Christmas break. Actually I used this race to gauge myself ahead of the season. I am eagerly looking forward to doing well in other upcoming races,” Gule said.
In the 40km category Sihle Dlamini was the eventual winner with a time of 2:22:37 hours.
