HAYLEY, ROBYN FOR SA LEVEL 3 GALA
MBABANE – The country’s record breakers, Hayley Hoy and Robyn Young, will compete with the best in South Africa during the Level 3 gala at Sasolburg.
The duo qualified for the Level 3 through their sterling performances in the past season. They are both Swim Lab Club swimmers.
Their coach, Welcome Nhlabatsi, confirmed yesterday that it was good news for the country to have swimmers in Level 3 as last year, no swimmers qualified for that level.
Both swimmers have been sensational in the past two years, breaking long-standing national records, which were over 10 years old.
“They have been doing well and their performance has seen them qualify for the Level 3. Our aim is to make the finals and winning a medal will be a bonus. It is possible to snatch a medal with the commitment and hard work from the swimmers,” he said.
The competitions start on Thursday with the finals on Sunday.
Robyn Young, who is now based in South Africa due to tertiary, will compete in six events, being the 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 200m IM. Young was among the swimmers who represented the country in the Region V games held in Botswana in December. She missed out on the National Championships held last January as she was settling in at tertiary in South Africa.

The events are 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, 50m fly, 100m fly, 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 200m breaststroke and 200m IM.
