MBABANE – Sharks Swimming Club is taking the lead in reaching out to new possible untapped swimming potentials.

The club has taken 18 pupils from Ezulwini Roman Catholic Primary School who attended their first swimming lessons on Friday.
Sharks Swim Club coach Chris Stapley said they approached the school at the beginning of the year where they met the Head teacher Mdluli, who supported the idea.

“The school was very supportive to the idea and it wasn’t long before the first 18 students were identified and arrived for their first ever swimming lesson, accompanied by their sports teacher, Sylvia,” he said.

Stapley said the swimming lessons would take place at Sharks swim club’s home at Ezulwini, every Friday afternoon. He said the good news was, the programme would continue during the winter months as the swimming pool is heated. “The continuation of the programme even in winter months will ensure that the children quickly develop their skills and maybe even be ready for next season’s summer swimming programme.

“At present the programme is 100 per cent funded by Sharks Swimming Club, although the Eswatini Swimming Association ((ESA) has been approached as head of swimming in the country to also invest, expand upon and support this programme,” he said
Stapley said it was essential that the development side of swimming was given first priority in the country this is why Sharks Club decided to initiate such a programme.
