FIRED CHAMUNIKA HITS BACK
MBABANE – Like his predecessor South African born coach, Mlungisi ‘Professor’ Ngubane, Zimbabwean coach, Saul Chamunika has also blamed interference for his short-as-sneeze reign at Mbabane Highlanders.
The former Matsapha United coach was shown the exit door on Monday and he pointed out that one day Highlanders people will know that he was not to blame for the team’s failures. He said he was ready to win big things with the club but he found himself in this situation due to the style of management of the club where they allegedly interfered with his duties.
Chaminuka became under fire after the 4-1 defeat by Young Buffaloes in the Ingwenyama Cup final. “Highlanders will wake up one day and know where it is going wrong.
“Is it the coaches really? All of them? It is not any easy question to answer but one day people will know who was wrong. It’s easy to turn to the coach and his backroom staff when the team loses because he is the one that we see every match day.
“It is not fair at the end of the day to shoulder all the blame especially for a team like Highlanders where control of the team is by people who want to coach behind the scenes,” he said.
painful
Chamunika, who led the black and white ensemble in 26 games since joining the club in October last year, said he leaves the club with a painful heart.
“I’m leaving the team with pain because I understand what was happening at the club yet I chose to be professional and wanted to see my contract through. I knew this marriage was not genuine because I am not a pretender and I will tell anyone to his face should something go wrong. I’m not going to allow people to destroy football by using me, as the sport is part of my life,” he added.
Chamunika was sacked at a time when Highlanders are at a crucial stage of the league. They play rivals Mbabane Swallows on Sunday in an MTN Premier League derby where the winner will still remain in with a mathematical chance of challenging for the league title with only six games remaining while tonight they face Vovovo at Somhlolo National Stadium.
