MANZINI – What a stunner!

That was substitute Barry Steenkamp’s goal to inspire Royal Leopard to a 3-0 win against struggling Tambuti here yesterday afternoon during their MTN Premier League match.

Steenkamp came in the second half for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) recently signed forward, Charles Edoa-Nga, who was frustrated by the opposition defence the entire first half and in the second half until he was rested.

Steenkamp’s classic strike came from Lungelo Tsabedze’s delivery from the left flank and he hit a same time volley at the edge of the box to give Tambuti shotstopper Mlamuli Makhanya no chance at the top left corner.

The goal took Leopard to a two-goal lead 66 minutes into the game after struggling to find a second since the opener by Bonginkhosi ‘Manyovu’ Dlamini, five minutes into the game.

‘Manyovu’ scored the opening goal in the opening minutes when Tambuti were still trying to find their footing. He connected a brilliant Edoa-Nga pass to beat Tambuti’s Makhanya between the post. Two minutes later, twin midfielder Fanelo Tsabedze hit the last nail on Tambuti’s coffin when he found the third goal for the Edwin Matsebula-led side.

enhanced their chances

With just four games to spare, Leopard have greatly enhanced their chances of winning the 2018/19 MTN Premier League.  Army side Young Buffaloes are closely chasing behind with 44 points after a merciless 7-0 thrashing of Mbabane Citizens.

The police outfit regrouped from a setback of a 0-2 beating by Green Mamba during their last league encounter at Nsukuwansuku Stadium, Mhlume. The Correctional outfit is also in the title-chasing pack on third place of the elite league log with 43 points plus a game in hand.
As for Tambuti, their woes have deepened as they have now dropped to 12 place and are only third from the basement.

dislodging

After a 3-0 win against Vovovo yesterday, Matsapha have jumped from this position to the top eight dislodging Tambuti from the 11 position.
During the game, the sugar-belt side had a few chances to find a goal of their own but Leopard did well to keep the defence intact.
