SA’S ALAN CHADWICK FOR GYMNASTICS COURSE

MBABANE – Eswatini Gymnastics Federation (EGF) will expose aspiring gymnastics coaches to a five-day coaches course.


EGF Secretary Muriel Hofer said in collaboration with FIG, UAG Zone-3 and AUSC Region 5 Gymnastics Confederation they are inviting aspiring gymnastics coaches and gymnasts to participate in the Gymnastics For All (GFA) coaches’ course to be held in Lobamba, from the April 26 to May 1, 2019.


The course will be facilitated by well experienced gymnastics coach Alan Chadwick from Pine Town Gymnastics, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. The course is financed by the International Gymnastics Federation.


“EGF is pleased to announce the rollout of its Long-Term Participant Development (LTPD) Programme, through the first Gymnastics for All Coaching Course. The course will take place at the OlympAfrica Centre from April 26 to the May 1. The course is open to any coach, parents, School teachers who are interested in understanding the fundamentals of physical literacy,” she said.


Hofer explained that physical literacy is defined as the mastery of fundamental movement skills and fundamental sport skills. She further explained that gymnastics is the foundation for all sports.


Some of the topics to be covered include the role of the coach, warm-up, fundamentals and understanding dominant movement patterns, teaching games for understanding, learning and teaching, planning, movement to music, displays, ethics, apparatus, safety and making your club successful among other things.


Participants will receive transport subsidy, accommodation, meals, manual log book, stationery and and a participation certificate. The Gymnastics Sport Leader accreditation will be awarded to the coaches after the completion of the log book and assessment of a practical session form one of the qualified coaches of Eswatini Gymnastics.

Chadwick is an International Gymnastics Federation Academy Level 1 holder and has a certificate in Sports Law (University of Pretoria),  Sport Management Diploma, Sports Marketing and Administration, among other qualifications.


He also serves as the technical manager for the South Africa Gymnastics Federation and supervises the activities of AUSC Region 5 Gymnastics Confederation and the funding from the International Gymnastics Federation. He headed the South African team to a number of international competitions.
