MBABANE – Sharks Swimming Club swimmer Nadia Volschenk was among the best swimmers during the South Africa Level 3 Championships.

She brought home a bronze medal after she finished third in the 50-metre freestyle. The championships were held in Germiston, South Africa, during the past weekend. Volschenk competed in four events, being; the 50-metre freestyle, fly, breaststroke and 100-metre breaststroke. Her coach Chris Stapley confirmed the results yesterday.

“It was in the 50m freestyle that Volschenk collected a bronze medal finishing just .01 second behind the winner of the silver medal. She was.31 seconds behind the gold medallist. Her personal best time of 29.0 seconds earned her 544 FINA points,” he said.
Stapley said Volschenk did well as the Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) ESA have set the qualifying standard for next year’s World Championships at 500 FINA points.

“It was a fantastic swim for Nadia and this has put her in a good chance of representing the country in the World Championships, having accumulated 544 points while the qualifying standard set by ESA is 500,” he added.
Nadia won the Victrix Ludorum at this year’s National Championships and has been a dominant member of Sharks club for many years. She trains alongside Senamile Dlamini and Lungelo Nxumalo who last year represented the Country at the World Championships in China.

Meanwhile, swimmer Ari Schott will be competing in South Africa’s Level 2 Gala starting today to Friday. She will be competing in the 100-metre freestyle, 50 and 100-metre breaststroke and 200-metre breaststroke. Swimmer Senamile Dlamini qualified for Level 2 but she had to withdraw due to school commitments.
