‘BUFFS’ RAKE IN E2M
MBABANE – ‘Team of the moment’ Young Buffaloes will smile all the way to the bank at the end of the season.
The security forces outfit are this season’s money-makers following a dominant display. At least five games, which are four league fixtures and the EswatiniBank Cup final, are left in all competitions before the curtain falls on what has been an enthralling campaign but the army side is already guaranteed a minimum of E2 million.
These are minimum earnings for the period August 2018 to April 2019. A lion’s share of the winnings is the E1.3 million for bringing home the Ingwenyama Cup last month. Dominic Kunene’s troops are now in the final of the EswatiniBank Cup set for May 5 and they are guaranteed E500 000 if they fail to claim the E1.1 million first prize ahead of Royal Leopard.
In the MTN Premier League, Buffaloes are third and have already cemented their place in the top five. As a result, they are now guaranteed a minimum of E100 000. If they eventually finish third or do better, they can shoot up their ‘Y’ello’ earnings to between E350 000 and E1 million.
In the EswatiniTelecom Charity Cup back on August 5, 2018, Buffaloes were eliminated in the semi-finals by Mbabane Swallows. As a result, they were entitled to E100 000. Buffaloes acting CEO Thando ‘Va’ Nxumalo said the team still targeted to earn more in the remaining games.

“Our priority is making history by winning the EswatiniBank Cup for a third time in a row. “In the league, we know it is no longer in our hands, but we won’t rest on our laurels,” he said.
Nxumalo said what makes the side to tick this season was the flawless blending of experienced and gifted youngsters.
“The coaches have been here for over three seasons, so the experience comes in handy. We also promoted good players like ‘Rio’ (Lindani Matsenjwa) from our development,” he said.
Buffaloes are unbeaten in all 17 games they have played in all competitions in 2019.
With four matches to spare in the league, they are four points adrift of leaders Leopard. In the remaining league fixtures, they will have a date with Vovovo, Malanti Chiefs, Moneni Pirates and the police outfit.
Meanwhile, Swallows used to be money makers in the past three seasons, as they were winning a minimum of three trophies each campaign. This time around they have only managed to win one trophy. This is the EswatiniTelecom Charity Cup, which has a first prize money of E1 million.
