MAKE OR BREAK FOR VOVOVO
It is squeaky bum time, so every point is now valuable. The pressure is on Vovovo, as they visit fellow strugglers Tambuti in a relegation six-pointer at King Sobhuza Stadium in Nhlangano this afternoon.
As both teams play catch-up following the abandonment of their game on March 5, Vovovo hope for a reprieve in their bid to avoid the relegation trap door. Gcina ‘Magiyane’ Dlamini’s men are in the drop zone and they are five points away from safety.
They need maximum points to close in on Wanderers, and Tambuti.
The latter are two places above the drop zone, but are still forced to look over their shoulders by Vovovo, who are just five points behind with three games to spare. However, Terisayi Changara’s men will be buoyed by their better head-to-head record.
They are yet to lose to Vovovo since the latter’s promotion to the Premier League last season. The reverse fixture played on November 3, 2018 ended 1-0 in favour of Tambuti. While the Lubombo-based ensemble have dominated this fixture, they cannot let complacency creep in.
They should be a wary of a dying horse’s last kick. They are further still trying to pick up the pieces following a shake-up in the side headlined by a players’ exodus in January.
In ‘Magiyane’, Vovovo have a coach who can ensure the pendulum swings in their favour, but it will take courage and mental strength to steer his youthful charges out of danger. For Tambuti, the equation is simple; beat Vovovo and escape the chop.
