MAGAGULA RETAINS RUGBY PRESIDENCY
MBABANE – Youthful Simanga Magagula has tightened his grip on the hottest seat in Eswatini rugby.
Magagula, who was leading the association on an interim basis, shook off Hebrew Manana from Eagles rugby club in the race for presidency. This transpired during an elective general assembly at Caritas Centre in Manzini on Saturday.
According to the elections results copied to this publication, Wandile Magwaza will deputise for Magagula while Banele ‘Samba’ Vilakati takes over from Michael Collinson, who was interim treasurer. Secretary Bonginkosi Dlamini completes the four-member committee.
Magagula also confirmed the latest developments, saying eight clubs were represented during the meeting. The gathering included Titans from University of Eswatini, Malkerns’ Vondos, Cheetahs and Jaguares from Mbabane, Elephants from Luve, Bhunya-based Wolves, Eagles from Manzini and Buffaloes of Mliba.
“The annual general came after the interim executive’s time had elapsed
“The clubs after amending the sport’s constitution voted for a new executive. The voting went smoothly with club representatives enthusiastic about the activity,” said Magagula.
The new executive promised to work with clubs to promote the sport in the country and to abide by the new constitution.
The 30-year-old Magagula, who is probably the youngest president in the country, passed his vote of thanks to the rugby family in the kingdom for trusting him to lead the sport.
“Together we can but forget it alone. In few weeks to come, we will be having our league kickoff,” he said.
Meanwhile, the president is former Dvokolwako Buffaloes boss. He used to play for the Elephants.
The association, on the other hand, has changed to Eswatini Rugby Union (ERU). Previously it was styled Swaziland Rugby Union.
