PIGGS’ PEAK – A fatigue stricken Malanti Chiefs managed to hold an average Young Buffaloes to a 1-all draw here yesterday.
Three days ago, Malanti Chiefs lost 0-1 to strong title contenders, Green Mamba during a MTN Premier League clash at Somhlolo National Stadium. This was a replay match which had to be stopped in the 65th minute following the demise of Papy Faty, who collapsed inside the field (Killarney Stadium) and was later certified dead a few hours later at the hospital. This incident happened on April 25.
The Malanti and Buffaloes clash, which was supposed to play on April 28, had to be postponed as players were still mourning Faty’s death. It finally took place at the notorious Killarney Stadium and it was evident that the Malanti players were suffering from fatigue as they were exposed by the skeleton army side, which had seven players missing. The players are currently at camp with the national team, Sihlangu.
Some of these players are Sandile Gamedze, Fanele ‘Order’ Mamba and Wandile ‘Skosh’ Shabangu.
Despite that they were minus their key players, the army side started brightly and although there were some moments one could see that the absent players were missed. They created an avalanche of chances but top men in Phiwa Dlamini and Sanele Ngcamphalala were not clinical.
Collapsed
The game had to be stalled for 10 minutes in the 44th minute after Malanti’s Sifiso Makhubu was involved in a heading collision with Buffaloes’ Dumisani Mdluli. Refree of the day Thokozani Dlamini cautioned Mdluli for foul play and issued a yellow card.
