MBABANE – There will be some divine intervention for elite teams Mbabane Highlanders and Moneni Pirates this year – the two are part of the third edition of the Bible Society Cup.

Impeccable sources have revealed that both clubs will join first and second edition winners in hub giants Manzini Sundowns and Manzini Wanderers, respectively, as they had been playing against the other in those editions. This news comes at a time when Highlanders are making headlines for all the wrong reasons (all financially related) while Pirates have relegation to fight with two league games to spare.

However, after a fruitful meeting with sports editors and reporters in the country last year at Royal Swazi Spar Hotel, the recommendation to include the other big teams was seemingly taken with both hands. The third edition will be officially launched on Monday at the Royal Swazi Sun Hotel in Ezulwini, just four to five kilometres outside the capital city Mbabane, down the notorious Malagwane Hill.

invites

“We have received invites after the Bible Society engaged us with the idea of taking part in the tournament which we were made to understand will still have Wanderers and Sundowns . It will be a four-team tournament in short,” confirmed one of the two clubs’ officials on condition of anonymity.

However, just before the two teams’ spokespersons were reached for official comment, the Bible Society’s John Lukhele affirmed the launch and that it was taking place on Monday morning.

“We’re having a breakfast meeting in which we’ve invited the media as we’ll also launch the third edition of the Bible Society Cup. We’ll also have two ministers in attendance from Home Affairs and Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs,” he said.

Lukhele asked not to comment on finer details of the tournament as there was a scheduled official launch next week and that is where all would be laid bare for the public to be aware of the ‘Bible in the soccer field’ event.

Just as Lukhele confirmed the launch, Highlanders’ PRO Paul ‘Magidz’eludzakeni’ Masilela also confirmed their participation.
“We’re grateful to Bible Society for the invitation to such a unique soccer event and it is only the directors who will confirm our participation after the launch,” he said.
