GADLELA FASTEST IN USUTU TRAIL RUN
MHLAMBANYATSI – More Fire Athletics Club’s Mandla Gadlela has fired to the top in the Usutu Trail Run Challenge.
A true reflection of determination and hard work, Gadlela was unmatched in his first 20km Usutu Trail Run Challenge. He had joined numerous marathons in the country, but he lifted his first championship trophy on Saturday. Gadlela was untouchable during the race and expressed his jubilation upon being crowned the overall champion. He was among the 28 who conquered the 20km race, clocking 1:14:40 hours. “Hard work really pays off. This is my first 20km championship trophy and I am over the moon to have won it.
‘‘It was a fun but challenging race, marred by hills and slopes but I overcame all those obstacles and came out tops. I dedicate two hours to training everyday,” said Gadlela. Sipho Mamba was the champion of the 12 km race and also walked away with a trophy and monetary prizes. He clocked 44:12 minutes. Mamba was participating for the second time in the event, having finished in position two in his first attempt where he competed in the 20km race.
Derailing
The goal-driven athlete appealed to members of the public for sponsorship, mentioning that financial challenges were derailing his progress. “I am happy to have won all these prizes. I am a very strong athlete but my challenge is that I am struggling with finances and cannot afford the proper outfits like sneakers, which are essential for athletes. If anyone is willing to assist me, my contact number is 7871 5320,” said Mamba. Meanwhile, Environmental and Food Science University of Eswatini student Gcinile Magongo was the champion in her division.
