UTD HOLDINGS’ E230 000 FOR MAFUTSENI CYCLE RACE
MANZINI – United Holding continues to ‘hold’ tight on the sponsorship strings of the NewCom Wheels cycling race billed for June 2.
The race named United Holding Newcom Wheels Mafutseni Road Cycle Classic is sponsored to the tune of E230 000 with an increment of E20 000 from last year’s E210 000 sponsorship. The 11th edition of the sponsorship was launched at United Holding conference room, Manzini yesterday.
The race will feature a 120km, 60km, 20km and 10km for juniors. Commercial Services General Manager Marcelle Fortune, who represented the CEO, said the sponsorship covers the set-up costs of the race, cycling kits, prize money, trophies and medals among other things.
“United Holdings limited and its subsidiary companies believe in supporting social advancement, particularly areas which develop and encourage active, healthy and positive living. As the main sponsor, we are most proud and honoured that this event is recognised within and far beyond our borders.
“The race has attracted participants from various African countries including Mozambique, Botswana and South Africa. We look forward to being hosts again and welcoming you to our beautiful kingdom,” she said.
She also added that this investment would go a long way in growing cycling in the country.
Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council’s (ESRC) Zama Tsabedze said they were happy with the contribution made by United Holdings in supporting sports in the country, especially cycling.
“We are proud of companies like United Holdings who have been holding on in supporting these events for the past 11 years,” he said.
Newcom Wheels Chairman Mbusi Motsa said United Holdings had played a crucial role in developing cycling in the country since they were operating under Dups.
“When this sponsorship started it was E10 000 and E2 500 came from Mbabane Motors 11 years ago and we are still together with them and our sponsorship package is now over E200 000. This is a big growth and we are proud,” he said.
Also present during the launch was the Eswatini Cycling Association (ECA) President, Sihlangu Nhlabatsi, and some teams representatives.
