SIKHUMBUZO FOUNDATION’S SOCCER, CULTURE FESTIVAL
MBABANE – The Sikhumbuzo Foundation will present a soccer and culture festival to be held at St Paul’s Sports Ground, starting tomorrow.
This event was proudly sponsored by the Bible Society and Corban Build Hardware, including Manzini North Member of Parliament (MP) Macford Sibandze, who partnered with the organisers of the event. Tomorrow, games will commence at 2pm and on Sunday at 10am. The entertainment line-up also includes culture dance, which was organised by Corban Hardware.
The tournament will be played in a group format and the finals will be staged on Thursday (Ascension Day) at the same venue. Attendants will be blessed with the presence of Bishop Nash Shongwe, who will share the Word of God and his son, Pastor Sikhumbuzo Shongwe will be a motivational speaker. Members of the public were invited to attend in numbers.
A prize package of E30 000 has been reserved in terms of soccer kits, trophies and medals. According to the foundation’s Chairman, Mxolisi Methula, the event is a pre-launch of the main Bible Society Cup billed for June 15, 2019.
involvement
Methula mentioned that the notion being the involvement of the church with sports was to bring the Bible into the soccer field. He explained that for a long time, soccer had been portrayed as ‘ungodly’ and this initiative would help eradicate the negative stereotype and allow Christians to pursue their passion in sports without being discriminated. He added that Sikhumbuzo Foundation Soccer and Culture Festival would be an annual event.
“We are bringing the Bible to the soccer field. Our aim is to instil Christian values and norms in the football world which has a huge following, both the youth and the elderly. We have also prepared an entertainment and cultural line-up. Winners will be awarded with lucrative prizes and members of the public will be presented with Bibles,” said Methula.
Sikhumbuzo Foundation is a non-profit organisation that was founded on December 16, 2016. Apart from providing aid to less privileged members of the community, the foundation also serves as a medium for its president, Pastor Sikhumbuzo, to attract the community to transform their lives by living a holistically Christian life, guided by the church’s ethics and norms. Methula mentioned that 10 teams had been confirmed to compete both on Saturday and Sunday.
