DURBAN – It’s a mountain to climb for the national team, Sihlangu in the COSAFA Cup as they have to win the game against Comoros if they are to realise their dream of reaching the quarter-finals.
A win for the Kostadin Papic side will give them hope of making it to the quarter-finals to play Zimbabwe and hope Mauritius do not win with a better score against Comoros. The 2-all draw against Mauritius in the opening match on Saturday left Group A wide open. Only one team will make it through to the quarter-finals.
Sihlangu are in a better position to win the match against Comoros as they are better ranked at 143 while Comoros is ranked 147 in the FIFA rankings released on April 4.
Scoring two goals against Mauritius gave hope to the team that failed to score any goal in their Last appearance in the COSAFA Cup.
The national team is expected to come out with guns blazing and will rely on the firepower from the likes of Mbabane Swallows Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, Green Mamba Musa Dlamini and Young Buffaloes forward Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze.
After a long spell of not scoring more than two goals, Sihlangu through Siboniso Mamba and Felix Badenhorst scored the much needed goals.
Sihlangu was favourite to qualify for the quarter-final in Group A after the withdrawal of Angola in the last match minutes leaving the group with only three teams being Sihlangu, Mauritius and Comoros. Meanwhile, Comoros squad is dominated by their local players with only one international player who plays in Namibia.
