DURBAN – The national team, Sihlangu suffered a major blow ahead of their final match in the COSAFA Cup Group A, as defender Siboniso ‘Gaxa’ Ngwenya was ruled out due to an injury.
Ngwenya was part of the team that settled for a 2-all draw against Mauritius on Saturday, in the opening match played at King Zwelithini Stadium. Sihlangu coach Kostadin Papic confirmed yesterday that the player will not be part of the team to face Comoros.
Ngwenya missed yesterday morning’s training session at South Beach, Durban, as he watched from afar, limping from the foot injury.
“We are going to miss him, but we have a full squad and all the players are capable of delivering. I’m hopeful that when we reach the quarter-final he will be ready to play as it is not a long term injury,” Papic said.
The coach added that they will be all out for a win in the game against Comoros.
“It won’t be an easy game, but we are going to fight for a victory. It is an important game for us, as we must win no matter what. I believe that we will start with a different team for the game and I believe our strikers will score the much needed goal,” he said.
Sihlangu missed golden chances against Mauritius only by Siboniso Mamba and Felix Badenhorst.
