‘BULL’ LEGENDS TO FEATURE AT BANFTWABENKHOSI CULTURE DAY
MBABANE – EmaSwati seem to embrace His Majesty the King’s ideology of mixing culture with football.
Mbabane Highlanders’ legends will on Saturday, June 1, 2019 join Bantfwabenkhosi, otherwise known as Emalangeni (members of the royal family) who are the descendants of the legendary late Prince Ndlaluhlaza in hosting a culture day at KalaZwane Sports Ground, Nginamadvolo.
Announcing the event was the team’s legend Josiah ‘Digga’ Dlamini in the presence of another legend in 72-year-old Casper Sambo on Monday at Sigwaca House. “I have been assigned to come and announce the event and invite all members of the royal family to attend. These are members of the royal family from Mahlangatsha, Hhehhe and Nginamadvolo,” said Dlamini. There will be cultural activities on the day and a soccer match between the capital city giants’ legends and Pigg’s Peak legends.
The former Sihlangu manager added that kick-off is at 9am and the game will also act as a practice match for Highlanders’ legends, who will be having another match on June 8, 2019 in Siteki during the team’s tribute event for another Highlanders’ legend in the late Stanley Matsebula. “During Stanley’s tribute, we will also fund-raise by hosting a dinner later on the day where people will be required to pay a certain amount,” he said.
Dlamini said a fund for the team legends will be created to cater for their needs. This coming Saturday, he said elders of the team would meet with members of the royal family to deliberate on their personal issues.
“The aim is that the legends who once played as teammates also assist each other in trying times,” said Dlamini. He also highlighted that they planned on expanding the tribute initiatives after the one for Matsebula where at times they will pay respect even to legends who are stil alive.
