EZULWINI – EFA affiliates are now guaranteed at least E1.2 million each year from the share of the revised FIFA grant.

With effect from January 2019, Eswatini Football Association gets at least E14.4 million from the global soccer body. In 2018, the grant was about E7.6 million. Due to the tough economic times, EFA President Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa announced a decision to create a budgetary line from the FIFA funding as a grant to its member associations. These are the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), as well as associations of coaches, referees, women football and the four regional football bodies. Each association is guaranteed a minimum E150 000.

Distributed

“The first figure has been placed at E1.2 million, which will be distributed in varying amounts. This will be received in two equal parts (February and August) every year,” he said. The first portion has already been distributed to membership. In the past, the associations used to get between E80 000 and E100 000. Meanwhile, the money from global soccer body is given under the FIFA Forward banner and it is for the 2019-2022 period. Certain standards should be met before it can be distributed. It includes developing a fully-fledged and sustainable grassroots programme as well as creating opportunities for girls and women to participate in football governance.
