MBABANE – He has added to his already rich purse after being confirmed as the EswatiniBank Cup 2019’s Player of the Series Award winner.

The gong is valued at E15 000. A list of this year’s individual awards’ winners was released by the tournament’s Management Committee (MC) Secretary and Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Simanga Nhleko yesterday.

The list names the Young Buffaloes and national team Sihlangu midfielder-cum-forward, Sandile ‘Saviola’ Gamedze, who was in blazing form last season, as the tournament’s best player. And yes, he was an inspiration for his team throughout the tournament.

The gong has already been preceded by a similar one in the Ingwenyama Cup with a E15 000 cheque while also scooping the Top Goalscorer Award worth E10 000 in same tournament. His earnings then were at E25 000 but have now shot up to E42 000.00 as he also received E2 000 as Man of the Match in the final.

This makes him the highest earner in the country’s elite football for the past season already and could still be named the league’s overall best tonight at Royal Swazi Spa’s Convention Centre during the league awards which can take him to well over E50 000 as that one comes with a E12 000 cheque.
“First and foremost, I must thank my team because I couldn’t do it all alone. I also have to thank God as this is the third time I win the EswatiniBank Cup award. It’s a huge honour. I’m glad for such an achievement,” he said.

He added that it was all down to hard work, along with the help of his teammates and technical bench so “I’d say this was my best season”.
His coach Dominic Kunene also took that department’s award with a cash value of E10 000 while Mbabane Highlanders’ South African striker Thabiso Mokenkoane won the Top Goalscorer also worth E10 000. Green Mamba’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Thami Phakathi took the Best PRO gong worth E7 000.

Others who won awards were the match officials of the final between Buffaloes and Royal Leopard being Mbongiseni Fakudze, Thembinkosi Magagula, Sambulo Simelane and Mbongeni Shongwe, who all got E2 500 each.

In the media category, the Times Sports Desk was the best along with its reporter Sanele Jele taking the individual award.  On another note, winning clubs, including champions to quarter-finalists, were paid last week.
