MBABANE – “I want to transform and instil a winning attitude at Mbabane Highlanders.”
These were comments by former Free State Stars midfielder Thabo Mashego, who is among coaches who have applied for the Mbabane Highlanders vacant post.

Mashego, who guided Super Eagles to South Africa’s National First Division during his tenure, said if given the job he was ready to help the ‘Black Bull’ win trophies.

“Look, I began to have more interest in Eswatini football after they recruited former Orlando Pirates coach, Kostadin Papic to be the national team. With my experience as a player and a coach, I believe I can produce super stars who can play for the national team and also help the team win trophies,” Mashego said. He said his first assignment would be aligning himself with the vision of the team.

“Well, as a coach I have my targets but then you have to have a good chat with the management and get to understand what really they want. When you are new in a team, one thing that needs to be achieved is getting the players to understand your philosophy and getting them to believe in you. The early you achieve that, the better the chances of building a formidable team that can compete for honours,” the former Maritzburg United player said.
Another coach who has submitted his application is Ugandan coach, Charles Lukula. He is the former coach of the Under-23 national team in Uganda. This was confirmed by his agent, Charles Kamali, yesterday.

“Yes, it is true that Lukula has applied for the coaching post at Mbabane Highlanders. We are positive that he is the right man to coach the team,” the Ugandan agent said.
Mbabane Highlanders Head of Communications and Secretariat Gcina Dlamini said as per the advert, the deadline was yesterday.
“We are going to look at the applications and choose the best candidate for the job. The basic requirement is we want a coach who can deliver. A coach who can help the team win trophies,” Dlamini said.

disappointed

He said he was disappointed with local coaches as there were a few that applied.
“Without revealing names of the local coaches, we want to say we are disappointed about local coaches as a few have shown interest. Instead, we have more international applications. We have received applications from France, Italy, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda and South Africa,” he said.
He also disclosed that if things go according to plan, they would love to have the coach before preseason training.

Highlanders will start preseason training on July 1st.
The successful candidate must meet the basic requirement of having the CAF A Licence or better for the position. The club wants someone with knowledge of management, planning and communication.
